Father Duc Nguyen, born in Soc Trang, Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, is the second youngest of 11 children. His family fled their farm when the Communists took over Vietnam, and his father was imprisoned for seven years due to his work with the American military. Fr. Duc's mother raised the family alone during this time, instilling strong faith in them.
Encouraged by his pastor, Fr. Duc considered the priesthood in his late teens while actively volunteering in the parish. He joined an "underground" seminary for four years due to government restrictions. In 1994, Fr. Duc and his family immigrated to the U.S. as political refugees. He learned English at a community college, earned an associate’s degree in computer science, and entered Mt. Angel Seminary in St. Benedict, Oregon, followed by St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California. He was ordained on June 10, 2006.
In his free time, Fr. Duc enjoys traveling, jogging, and gardening.
