Dear Friends in Christ, One of the daily topics of conversation in our lives is the weather. Mother Nature has been prominent in the news of late with the devastating tragic wildfires in Maui, Tropical Storm Hilary in Southern California, and the polluted smoky air in the Northwest. One day last week, reports indicated that we had the worst air quality in the entire world. The growing concern about climate change is something we as Catholics should take seriously and incorporate into the practice of our faith.

The Archdiocese is migrating all parishes to a new database called ParishStaq which will replace our PDS and Flocknote systems. Dear Friends in Christ, As we continue to enjoy summer, many families are also preparing to go “Back to School!” Students, teachers, and staff are scheduling dates and events that will begin a new academic year. The “Back to School” mode applies not only to students in formal education settings, but to all of us as disciples or students of the Lord Jesus Christ, and members of his body the church. Here are some reminders of important dates coming up here at St. Bridget’s.
Students entering 7th grade and older, are eligible to take part in confirmation. Classes begin on September 17, following Mass. For more information, please contact Sarah Chopyak - [email protected].
Please join us for Mass on September 9-10 for the celebration of St. Phoebe Day. Phoebe was a collaborator with St. Paul and a deaconess and leader in the early church at Corinth. Her legacy is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the ministerial gifts and leadership of women in our church today, including the possibility of their eventual ordination as deacons. We will feature girls and women from St. Bridget’s in most of the liturgical ministries. Manon Cypher from our Pastoral Council will offer a reflection at the homily time. Plan on joining us!
Dear Friends in Christ, This coming Tuesday, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day which obliges Catholics to attend Mass. We will celebrate this great solemnity with Mass at 6:30 pm. Please plan to attend. The late Trappist Fr. Basil Pennington describes the Assumption in this way:
Archbishop Etienne signed a partnership declaration with the Archbishops of Santa Fe and Nagasaki, and the Bishop of Hiroshima for a world without nuclear weapons. (The Archdiocese of Santa Fe makes the nuclear weapons, while our archdiocese holds the largest number of nuclear weapons – and the Archdiocese of Nagasaki and the Diocese of Hiroshima are the only dioceses in the world directly impacted by an atomic bomb.) Our beloved Luanne is retiring from St. Bridget's. Please join us following our 9:30 am Mass on August 13 for a special celebration honoring her for her dedication to St. Bridget parish.
Dear Friends in Christ, The picture on the cover of the bulletin is one of our kiddos who participated with 50 other children this past week in “Vacation Bible School.” The theme of the VBS was “Let’s Go Digging for Treasure.” The treasure of course is God’s love revealed in the bible, most especially in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The love of Christ is primarily revealed in the lives of his body and the church, including in a special way through our children and youth. Continue reading...
