Dear Friends in Christ, There are many grace-filled moments in the four years I have had the privilege of serving as your pastor. One of them came in my early months at the parish when Archbishop Paul Etienne came to visit St. Bridget’s for the first time. Following Mass, he greeted parishioners, including our dear Barbara Sauntry who passed on recently just three months shy of her 104th birthday. The picture below of her greeting the archbishop is one of my favorites of both of them. Continue reading...

Dear Friends in Christ, This past Wednesday, July 12, I joined 27 members of our staff, pastoral council, finance and stewardship council, and several parish members at large for a leadership retreat day. It was a wonderful opportunity to pray, share fellowship, and reflect together on our parish mission, values, and goals as outlined in our 2023-2025 strategic plan. The added focus of the retreat was to reflect on how we can continue to grow as a St. Bridget parish community, even as we prepare to merge with other local parishes in the Partners in the Gospel strategic plan. Dear Friends in Christ, As I grow in my familiarity with the history of St. Bridget’s, I notice the usual turnover of families moving on from the parish and new ones joining the community. That goes for parish staff and priests as well, as I am the 9th pastor of St. Bridget’s in its 55-year history. Amid all these comings and goings, since 1979, one thing that has remained constant is the presence of Luanne Johnson. She registered in the parish in 1979 and became a regular participant at Sunday Mass and an active volunteer in many church ministries and organizations. Luanne joined the parish staff in 2000 and has served in various capacities, generously doing whatever needed to be done to help the community. Luanne’s role at St. Bridget’s as a paid staff has usually been part-time, but she has always donated her time beyond that. Whatever Luanne does at St. Bridget’s she does with a kindness and graciousness that has touched many people. I can’t imagine what the parish or I would have done without her. Continue reading...
Pope Francis has appointed more than 450 participants, including dozens of religious men and women and laypeople from around the world, to attend the first general assembly of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality in October. Archbishop Paul D. Etienne of Seattle is among the participants, which currently include just 20 from the United States. “I’m honored by this personal appointment by the Holy Father,” Archbishop Etienne said July 7. “Part of the role of these synod delegates is to bring the thoughts and the concerns of the local church. I’ll do that to the best of my ability.” Continue reading...
Dear Friends in Christ, This summer we as a parish are happy to welcome the “Kids Place” preschool program which is relocating to St. Bridget’s for the coming school year after operating at neighboring St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church for some 20 years. The school is familiar to many St. Bridget and ASB Families who have sent their children to this program, serving kiddos ages 2/12 to 4 years old. They summarize their educational philosophy as “Learning through play.” Sounds fun! During the school year, the program serves about 15-20 children Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to noon. Besides the rental income, another benefit for St. Bridget’s is that we will be welcome to use the school's play areas and art room when they are not in session. That’s a great gift to offer all the kiddos in our parish! Continue reading...
