Introducing the first of its kind, the First Communion Closet.
First Communion is a big day for Catholic families. It’s an exciting day of celebration but also comes with the added expense of purchasing a gown or suit that will likely be a one-wear wardrobe item. A group of us have put our heads together and have come up with a plan to take the financial burden off families by starting an Archdiocese-wide First Communion Closet.
To begin, we are asking for donations of gently used or new communion dresses and suits. If you have a dress or suit hanging in the back of your child’s closet that could use a 2nd life, please consider donating it so another child could feel confident on their big day.
There will be a bin labeled First Communion Closet in your parish office starting February 1st. Please donate all goods there; they will be picked up and cataloged for checkout by the end of March. St. Bridget Parish will begin as the first housing site for the clothing. The goal is to have clothing ready for checkout by the last week of April for First Communion services in May.
Our hope is for the clothing to be used multiple times throughout the Seattle Archdiocese and for Seattle kids to be able to access clothing that they need for their important day. Big ideas have small starts and the starting point is all of you.
Please join me in helping give families the First Communion all kids deserve. Questions? Please email [email protected] Thank you!
