You will notice that our family's four parishes—Our Lady of the Assumption, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Bridget of Kildare—all gather under the patronage of holy women. Someday, when we become a single parish family, we might do well to name our community after another holy woman.
This Sunday, February 2, our friends at St. Bridget’s celebrate their parish feast day, an occasion to give thanks for the faith, hope, and love the community has shared since its creation in 1968. It will also be the occasion for the community to bless two new icons that now grace the sanctuary of their worship space. One is of St. Bridget, the other of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, another holy woman in our Catholic tradition. Mother Cabrini graced the Laurelhurst neighborhood many years ago when she and her sisters created what is now Villa Academy. Her compassionate care of immigrants to the United States is a reminder that in our time, communities should welcome those who seek a new life in our country.
All you holy women…pray for us! Live Jesus in our hearts…forever!
