Dear Friends in Christ,
One of my favorite musicals is from the early 1990s, titled “Children of Eden.” It’s the story
in Genesis of God’s children, that’s all of us losing the life of Eden by our disobedience and
selfishness. The rest of the story, to this very moment in time, tells of God’s endless plan to
bring us back to paradise, the garden where the love of God and neighbor is the unambiguous
center and reason for our lives. The final song in the play, in its own way, invites us to begin
again the season of Advent, a sacred time of longing, waiting, and preparing for the Lord to
come again at Christmas time, at the end of time, and in the meantime, every day of our lives.
Of all the gifts we have received
One is most precious and most terrible
The will of each of us is free
It’s in our hands
Our hands can choose to drop the knife
Our hearts can choose to stop the hating
For every moment of our life
Is the beginning...
There is no journey gone so far
So far we cannot stop and change direction
No doom is written in the stars
It’s in our hands...
We cannot know what will occur
Just make the journey worth the taking
And pray we’re wiser than we were, It’s the beginning
Now we begin…
Advent blessings to all!
