Please join me in praying for all students in our family of parishes who are returning to school after Labor Day. Let's also pray for teachers and school staff who give so generously in serving the needs of their students in our public and private schools, including our three parish schools, ASB, OLL and St, Catherine. I am a big admirer of educators who forgo higher-paying professions to help our young people develop the intellectual, emotional, and physical parts of their lives. While I have great respect for teachers and staff almost everywhere, my favorite of all time is my sister Mary Kay who is beginning her 42nd year in the Seattle School District, 32 of which have been teaching at Northgate Elementary, now known as James Baldwin. She plans to retire at the end of this school year, after which I hope to persuade her to sub in one of our parish schools! Thanks for all you do Ms. Heric!
The group that needs our prayers the most are parents of school-age children, which the Catechism of the Catholic Church describes in this way: Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule.
So, let’s unite in special prayer, support, and encouragement for all parents of students this school year! Thank you for all the love and sacrifices you make in raising your children. Here’s to a great school year for you!
