We continue our season of stewardship which this year we call “Sustaining our mission.” Please join me in making a stewardship pledge of treasure in the coming year. This is an intentional and significant gift we make off the top of our resources in gratitude for all God’s blessings and in trust of God's continued providence in our lives. Our collective effort helps us sustain our mission as a faith community. The past two weeks, we heard Ryan Oftebro and Mary Kay Beeby tell us about our new giving platform called “Push Pay.” This is an easy way to set up our monthly stewardship online which is how we pay most of our monthly bills. Push Pay is so easy, even I could do it! See today’s bulletin for more information.
Another side of Christian stewardship is the invitation to direct a portion of our tithe for works of charity and advocacy for the poor and vulnerable. We do that as a parish community. 2.5% of our monthly income goes to support various outreach programs. The need is great especially as we move through fall and winter. Please join me in making a regular monthly gift to support our Assumption St. Bridget St. Vincent de Paul Society or Catholic Community Services. Many others like Catholic Relief Services offer aid to victims of the war in Ukraine and in the Middle East. Please make these kinds of gifts a priority in your monthly budget.
A final thought on the importance of stewardship. It fosters gratitude and trust in God’s grace. We cooperate with God’s presence in the world but acknowledge who is ultimately in charge. C.S. Lewis put it this way: “It is not your business to succeed, but to do right; when you have done so, the rest lies with God.”
