I’m dating myself in recalling the film Casablanca which starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. A famous song originated in the film called “As time goes by.” The song reminds us that one of the life skills we need to develop is to take the time we need for things and people in our lives that are important. I will be doing that next week by going for a few days of retreat at Mt. Angel Abbey in Oregon. Joining me will be my brother Fr. Paul Heric who you may recall is the pastor of the Catholic Newman Center at WSU in Pullman. We’ve agreed to put the Husky/Cougar rivalry aside while we are on retreat! I am also planning to take a few days after Easter for a brief vacation in Palm Springs and am really looking forward to the sun and warmth!
The most important time to take for any Christian, however, is to plan to observe Holy Week which begins March 24th with Palm Sunday and moves into the Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the great Easter Vigil on Saturday which celebrates the amazing and miraculous gift of Easter resurrection, joy, and hope. I remind you of this because Easter is early this year, and some of you may have overlooked it in the midst of the business in your lives. It’s not too late to take notice and plan to celebrate these powerful commemorations of our Christian faith. Please note the Holy Week schedule of liturgies in the bulletin today. As the song above continues, “The fundamental things apply,as time goes by.”
Blessings of peace,
Fr. William Heric
p.s. A big “Thank you” to our parish members who gathered for the work party last Sunday afternoon. Your service to St. Bridget’s is greatly appreciated!
