Something recently occurred at St. Bridget’s for the first time in a while: One of our Bishops, Frank Schuster, came to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for 45 of the youth from Assumption and St. Bridget Parishes. I recall the last time that happened, which was May 10, 2019. It was my third day as your pastor, and everything was brand new to me. The presider then was our former Archbishop Peter Sartain who had asked me to come serve at St. Bridget’s. I’ve thanked him on numerous occasions for this assignment which has been a blessing and joy to me in so many ways.
One of them has been the opportunity to help rebuild the life of our parish in collaboration with our lay leadership and all of you. The COVID shutdown made that difficult, but there are clear signs that our parish life and spirit are growing. The above-mentioned celebration of Confirmation is one of them. It was a reminder of how important it is to keep our youth and children connected to the life of our church. Our Children’s Church Program continues to do that for kids ages 3-9. Some 40 of them have signed up to be part of the “Christmas Pageant” at our 4:00 pm Mass on Christmas Eve. We will once again have a live infant to play the Baby Jesus which should be very special. Please plan to attend that or one of our other Christmas Masses and be sure to invite a family member or friend who may not have been to church for a while. All are welcome!
Another blessing is the small but steady increase of people participating in our music ministry, under the leadership of Sarah Chopyak. Please feel welcome to join the ministry which soon will feature occasional songs from a children’s choir! That’s another reminder of the various opportunities to serve here at St. Bridget’s, including as a lector, eucharistic minister, server, or hospitality minister.
