Last week on April 17-19 I attended a workshop for priests assigned to be pastors of a family of parishes that officially begins July 1. The workshop was held at the Lodge at St. Edward in Kenmore, formerly the site of our diocesan seminary which I attended for 8 years many moons ago. Although I often visit the park, this was the first time I had stayed in the old seminary building for well over 50 years. Being one of a small handful of priests who attended the school, I spent a good amount of time sharing memories of the seminary with those unfamiliar with its history. It was a special time to visit a part of my past.
The workshop, however, was primarily about planning for the future of our local church through the Partners in the Gospel process you are by now well aware. The main purpose of this strategic plan is to reinvigorate the life and mission of our Catholic Communities by sharing resources, including priests. To that end I was privileged to meet this past Monday with members of the 4 parish councils in our family of St. Bridget/Assumption/Our Lady of the Lake/ and St. Catherine parishes. We gathered at the local Ravena Brewery to get to know each other and learn about our different parish communities over a couple of beers! The energy in the room was very positive and even excited about our future relationship as a common parish community. Stay tuned for more developments!
While we plan for the future, it’s also important to also stay focused on what is called the “Sacrament of the Present Moment.” One of the gifts coming soon to our St. Bridget Community is our parish auction on Friday, May 10th. The theme this year is “A Night in Paris.” The auction serves as both a wonderful community gathering and a vital means of supporting various ministries within St. Bridget Parish. Please consider attending and bring a friend with you! If you cannot attend please consider making a gift which you can do at the following link: https://stbridgetchurch.ejoinme.org/donate A big thank you in advance to all those working to make the auction a big success for the parish!
Blessings,
Fr. William Heric, Pastor
p.s. Special thanks to Amanda Cahill and all who made our recent celebration of First Holy Communion such a blessed event for the children who received.
