Something happens this Saturday, April 20 that ranks near the top of our priorities as a Catholic faith community. Congratulations to our 34 parish children who receive their first holy communion. I find the children take this special occasion with great seriousness and sincerity. I tell them what I’ve told kids for years: The only thing more important than their first holy communion, is their second, third, fourth, and in my case 30,000 thousandth holy communion. We trust the parents of these precious children will make participation in the Eucharist a regular weekly part of their lives. Special thanks to Amanda Cahill and her volunteers who helped prepare our first communicants through our “Children's Church” program.
As Catholics, we celebrate the Eucharist not only at our gathering as a parish community but in communion with our brothers and sisters wherever the Mass is celebrated around the world. That is an important backdrop to the Annual Catholic Appeal which begins this weekend. Once again we have the opportunity to support numerous important ministries offered throughout the Catholic Church in Western Washington. You will receive more information about the ACA through our various communication media. Our ACA goal at St. Bridget’s this year is $81,000 which is easily reachable if everyone participates. A reminder that the money that comes in over and above our goal comes back to support the ministries we offer as a parish.
Please be as generous as you can and thank you for joining me in making a pledge to support the ACA this year.
